Course Description 205: Psychology of the Exceptional Person is an overview of both theoretical and practical aspects of educating individuals with special needs. The class will focus on the specific challenges in mental, sensory, physical, communicative, social and emotional skills for this population. Students will be familiar with the federal regulations for educating students with special needs, including the general principles of making accommodations available to students. The class will also be familiar with the thirteen disabilities that are recognized under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA), and the impact to both the special and regular education teacher.
