This course is a comprehensive approach to the instruction of reading, with a focus on balanced literacy in oral communication, reading, and writing skills across the primary curriculum. Techniques that facilitate growth in listening, viewing, speaking, writing, and reading are designed and implemented in this course. Emphasis focuses on the assessment of children's progress in literacy development and appropriate teaching methodologies throughout Kindergarten through grade four. Narrative and expository sections included in the text enables future teachers to collaboratively discuss, dissect and understand how the literacy concepts, strategies, and other environmental and cultural conditions influence literacy.
