This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of educational research. Topics discussed will include the nature of scientific investigation, ethical considerations in human subject research, quantitative and qualitative research methodology and their respective philosophies, and appropriate data analysis techniques for different research designs. Students will learn how to analyze and interpret published research reports in order to become better consumers of research. The student will also critique a research proposal to ascertain the following traits: compliance with ethical principles, significance, adequacy in addressing an appropriate research question, adequacy of methods, and appropriateness of its proposed analyses.
