An overview of the major theories, issues, research and instructional practices that have been used in the study of reading, along with an explanation of the historical background of the major contemporary approaches and methods of teaching and learning to reading. Information will involve the “why” of teaching reading; the goals of teaching reading; the “what” of teaching through different approaches, and the “how” of reading through a balanced approach. Current research and application of literacy concepts are included in each lesson through peer collaboration.
